This is a lovely, intricately painted thangka of Chenrezig. What impacts you first is the deep violet brocade surrounding the painting. Very special. It just draws you in, and then you get to focus on the wonderful work of the artist.
Chenrezig is very popular in Tibet, only Guru Rinpoche is more popular. Perhaps you know Avalokitesvara. They are one and the same. His mantra is the same as Kuan Yin, “Om Mani Padme Hum.” Just like Kuan Yin, he is the buddha of love and compassion. It is possible they are one and the same.
He has two hands folded in prayer while holding a brilliant sky-blue wish-fulfilling jewel at his heart. In this way, he holds close to his heart Bodhicitta or altruistic love for all sentient beings. To show his promise of continuously manifesting in a multitude of ways beneficial energy, he holds a crystal mala in his other hand and a pristine lotus in the other.
