The one, the only—Shakyamuni Buddha. This is a gorgeous statue. The liberal use of gilding enhances this stunning representation. That face, hand painted with 24 kt gold, is slightly larger than other Tibetan statues of the same size. The effect is extraordinary. It's a face that radiates peace and tranquility. Seriously, it's palpable, you can feel it.

He is believed to have had 550 incarnations. His last embodiment was as Shakyamuni. After 6 years of fasting and meditation under the Bodhi tree, he reached enlightenment and broke the wheel of rebirth. He is said to have made the transition at age 80 in Kusinagara. From there he went on to higher realms, where he resides as the ruler of Shambhala.

You can go there but you have to be a high initiate on the Path. A very, very high initiate. We could tell you where it is, but it's best you find it yourself. And no, we haven't been there in the physical, but we hope to someday.

  • Made in Nepal in the Tibetan tradition

  • 8 1/2 inches
